A practical guide to the details that make a room feel considered: the type of light, the right scale, and what to check before you order.

01 / Find your starting point

Start with the room, not the product.

Choose the situation that sounds most like yours. We will point you toward the lighting type that usually works best, then you can browse at your own pace.

There is no single “correct” answer. These are useful starting points, not rules.

With a ceiling point, a pendant can give the main area a clear focal point. Check its drop and spread for your room.

Know what each light is for.

The easiest way to narrow a collection is to begin with the job you need the light to do.

03 / What to measure

Good proportions start with three numbers.

Before you fall for a finish, note the width of the surface, the height of the room and how much space people need to move comfortably.

01
Width

Measure the surface or area the light will sit over.

02
Drop

Check the fitting will not interrupt sightlines or door swings.

03
Clearance

Leave enough room for people to walk, sit and reach safely.

Keep sightlines openMeasure the tableLeave seated clearance

04 / Build the layers

Three layers of light.

A room feels more natural when each light has a clear job. Select a marker to see how a pendant, table lamp and wall light work together.

05 / Plan by room

Useful guidance, room by room.

Select a room for a short, practical checklist and a direct path into the collection.

Pendant light over a dining table in a modern British townhouse
Dining room

A light that brings people together.

Start with the table size and the height of the ceiling. A pendant or a small cluster usually gives the most useful focus.

  • Centre the fitting on the table, not the room.
  • Keep the lowest point comfortably above eye level.
  • Choose a dimmable bulb if you want one fitting to work for dinner and everyday use.

Living room

Build a softer, lower layer.

Combine one practical source with table or floor lamps so the room can change with the time of day.

  • Use floor lamps to give empty corners a reason to exist.
  • Keep reading lights close to the chair or sofa arm.
  • Warm bulbs make evening light feel more relaxed.

Bedroom

Keep the light close and calm.

Wall lights and bedside lamps work well when you want a clear surface and a softer glow.

  • Check the switch is reachable from the bed.
  • Use a shielded shade for a gentler evening light.
  • Allow enough clearance for doors, artwork and curtains.

Bathroom

Check the rating before the finish.

Choose a fitting that is suitable for its position in the room, then decide how you want the light to fall on the mirror.

  • Confirm the product IP rating suits the installation zone.
  • A pair of wall lights can reduce shadows at the mirror.
  • Use a qualified electrician for bathroom installations.

06 / Before ordering

A final, useful check.

These are the details that are easy to miss when you are focused on the way a light looks.

Bulb type and wattage

Check the product page for the compatible bulb base, maximum wattage and whether the bulb is included.

Dimmability

If you want to dim the fitting, make sure the bulb, dimmer and wiring are compatible with one another.

Voltage and power source

Confirm the fitting is suitable for your market and whether it is hardwired, plug-in or requires a ceiling point.

Dimensions and access

Compare the full dimensions with your room, including the canopy, arm movement and the route into the room.

IP rating and installation

Bathroom and outdoor positions need the right IP rating. Use a qualified electrician for fixed wiring.

One calm next step

Choose the room. We will help with the rest.

Browse by room, compare the practical details, and take your time finding a light that feels right at home.

FAQs

Before you order

Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about choosing your light, delivery, installation and returns. Product-specific dimensions and technical details are shown in the product information above.

Choosing your light

How do I check whether this light is right for my room?

Start with the full dimensions shown on this product page, then compare them with the available space around your table, kitchen island, mirror, wall or ceiling. Check the fitting's width, depth, height and total drop, and make sure doors, cupboards and walkways remain clear. Our Before You Buy guide explains how to plan the proportion and placement.

What should I check before ordering?

Please check the product dimensions, finish, colour, number of lights, bulb base, maximum wattage, voltage and whether bulbs are included. Also check whether the fitting is dimmable, how it is installed and whether your ceiling or wall can support it. If you are unsure about compatibility, please contact us before ordering.

Are bulbs included, and can I use a dimmer?

Please use the bulb and included-items information shown for the specific product. Dimming depends on the fitting, bulb and dimmer working together, so please check all three before installation. If the product page does not confirm a feature, contact us for clarification rather than assuming it is included.

Can I install the light myself?

Mains-powered lighting should be installed by a qualified electrician. Please check the product information and installation instructions before work begins. For bathroom lighting, the product's IP rating and the intended installation position must both be suitable; a qualified electrician should confirm this.

Delivery and tracking

How long will my order take to arrive?

Estimated times depend on the product, stock location, destination and delivery service selected. Use the table below as a guide.

Destination and service Estimated total arrival time Typical charge
UK standard delivery Approximately 3-6 weeks Usually free
UK express delivery Approximately 4-10 working days Usually from £9

European standard delivery Approximately 3-6 weeks Usually free
European express delivery Approximately 4-13 working days Usually from £9
Australia standard delivery Approximately 3-6 weeks Usually free
Canada and other destinations Shown at checkout or confirmed by Customer Service Depends on the order

Total arrival times include the typical preparation and delivery periods where both are available. Factory-direct preparation can vary by product. These timings are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates. Please wait until your order has arrived and been checked before booking an electrician or installer.

Will my order arrive in one parcel?

Larger orders may be split into several parcels so that individual products can be handled safely. Parcels may have separate tracking numbers and can arrive on different days. Once an order is dispatched, we will email the available tracking details.

What should I do if my tracking has not updated?

Please first check your dispatch email and its tracking link, including your junk or spam folder. If tracking has not updated for an extended period, contact support@ateasehomelife.co.uk with your order number. We can check the latest information with the warehouse or carrier.

What if my parcel arrives damaged, missing or incorrect?

Please inspect your order as soon as it arrives. Where possible, contact us within seven days with your order number, clear photos of the product, the outer and inner packaging, and details of anything missing or incorrect. Once confirmed, we will normally arrange replacement parts, a replacement product or the correct item at no extra cost.

Returns and refunds

Can I return the light if I change my mind?

For an eligible item, you may request a return within 14 days of receiving it. Please contact us before sending anything back. Once approved, the item must normally be returned within a further 14 days. It must be unused, uninstalled and resaleable, with its original packaging, parts, accessories and instructions.

Which items are usually not eligible for a change-of-mind return?

Made-to-order, bespoke or personalised products may not usually be returned once production has begun. Installed, altered, assembled, used or incomplete items may also be excluded, as may clearance or final-sale products where the product page restricts returns. Bulk orders of three or more of the same item and some overseas warehouse returns may require individual review.

Who pays for return postage?

For change-of-mind and other buyer-initiated returns, the customer will normally arrange and pay for return postage. We recommend a tracked service and keeping proof of postage. Express delivery, remote-area supplements and other additional delivery charges are normally non-refundable once dispatched. This does not affect your statutory rights for faulty, damaged or incorrectly described items.

When will my refund be issued?

After the approved return reaches the correct warehouse and passes inspection, we will submit the refund to the original payment method within three working days. Your payment provider may then take additional time to show the funds: PayPal usually takes 1-3 working days and card payments usually take 3–7 working days.

How do I request a return or exchange?

Email support@ateasehomelife.co.uk with your order number, the item you wish to return and the reason. Photos of the product and packaging can help us process the request more quickly. Please wait for our instructions and return address; do not send the parcel to an unconfirmed warehouse.
